Wild Child Announce Fourth Studio Album, ‘Expectations’

Wild Child are thrilled to announce the forthcoming release of Expectations, the band’s fourth full-length album, due out February 9, 2018. Feeling a desire to embark upon a more adventurous recording process than they had taken on in the past, the Austin, Texas-based band traveled far and wide in order to work with multiple producers (and accomplished musicians in their own right) on Expectations including; Chris Walla (formerly Death Cab For Cutie), Matthew Logan Vasquez (Delta Spirit), Chris Boosahda (Shakey Graves), Scott McMicken (Dr. Dog), Adrian Quesada (Grupo Fantasma), and Max Frost. Today Wild Child shares two new singles with the announcement of the record; “Think It Over”, produced by Walla, and “Expectations”, produced by Vasquez. Both songs are available on all DSPs starting today.

Over the past six years, Wild Child have been quietly becoming a force to be reckoned with, releasing critically-acclaimed albums and touring extensively in support. Their journey has seen them wow festival crowds at Bonnaroo, Newport, Lollapalooza, and ACL among others, while their latest headline tours have featured sold out shows across the country at venues including Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg, the 9:30 Club in DC, Chicago’s Lincoln Hall, and the Troubadour in Los Angeles. Led by Kelsey Wilson and Alexander Beggins, the Austin, Texas-based band has crafted a catalogue full of energy and emotion, writing songs that showcase the strengths of all seven band members.

When it came time to make their fourth LP, they knew they wanted to do something different. They had grown tired of the traditional process of making an album, being locked in a studio with only one producer, only one voice. The collections of songs they had written were so varied in style and scope; pushing the musical boundaries of what defined their sound, that they knew one voice wasn’t enough. They needed a chorus.

So they made of a list of their favorite musicians that were also producers in their own right – choosing those that would shine new light on specific compositions or ideas – and then traveled the world to collaborate with them.

The journey took them from Tromsø, Norway where the Northern Lights are the brightest in the world, to work with Chris Walla (formerly Death Cab For Cutie); to a rundown warehouse in the outskirts of Philadelphia where Scott McMicken (Dr. Dog) took on double duty of producer/bassist; and then to Kelsey’s childhood home of Wimberley, TX where Matthew Logan Vasquez (Delta Spirit) set up a makeshift recording studio.  Also in the mix was Chris Boosahda of Shakey Graves, Atlantic Records artist and pop wunderkind Max Frost, and Grammy Award winning producer Adrian Quesada (Groupo Fantasma, Brown Sabbath, Spanish Gold).

The result is a complex and dynamic record that is both cohesive and excitingly diverse, and also the band’s finest work to date.
