Vanessa Carlton’s Liberman to receive UK / Europe release

Vanessa Carlton has announced the release of her new album, Liberman, which will be released on 29th April in the UK/EU.  A deluxe version of the album, comprising of 18 tracks, will be released the same day featuring an additional collection of Live Living Room Sessions.

Liberman was released in the US at the end of 2015 to great critical acclaim, with Pitchfork calling the album “excellent” and rating it 7.8/10.  The ten songs on the album reflect Vanessa’s current state of mind since moving from NYC to Nashville, marrying husband John McCauley (Deer Tick) and having a baby girl.  The simple instrumentation mixed with her wistful vocals and poignant lyrics showcase the creative progression of this accomplished songwriter.

The album was recorded predominantly in the UK with Steve Osborne and finished in Nashville with Adam Landry. The album’s title stems from a colorful oil painting by her grandfather that hung in Vanessa’s sightline as she wrote the album on her piano in New York. Her grandfather’s given last name was Liberman – a fact she didn’t learn until many years after his death. Vanessa says; “I looked up what Liberman means and it’s ‘honorable man’ and ‘my beloved’ – all these things that just felt right to me.  It’s a strong family name that, in a weird way, describes the music to me.”

Liberman is introduced by a live video of album track Matter Of Time, which was filmed in her second home of Nashville at the end of her last leg of touring, and is a poignant track backed by folk melodies and Vanessa’s strikingly lush vocals. The video can be watched here – Matter Of Time.
