Single Mothers Premiere Video For New Single “Metropolis” on BrooklynVegan

First Material Since 2018’s Through A Wall

Touring with Off With Their Heads and Cancer Bats This Summer

Combining scab-peeling punk with speak-shout vocals reminiscent of the Hold Steady,
this band of townies from London, Ontario, ruthlessly skewers hypocrites,
McSweeney’s snobs, drunk assholes, and God, just to name a few.

[Thomson’s] lyrics touch on relationships, poverty, and ambition with a blunt poetry that would seem voyeuristic if it weren’t so relatable…a pitch-perfect balance of sincere vulnerability and tongue-in-cheek egotism

Single Mothers are back, boiling over with rage, and we couldn’t be happier.

Single Mothers live and die by post-hardcore, taking influence from forefathers that range from Quicksand to indie-rooted acts like Cursive, creating a version that is singularly theirs and singularly incendiary.

Today, Single Mothers are premiering a surprise new single with BrooklynVegan. Written just before 2018’s acclaimed Through A Wall (out now via Dine Alone Records), “Metropolis” sees Single Mothers at their pissed-off best. The band is currently on a headline UK tour, with further dates with Off With Their Heads and Cancer Bats coming this summer. Full dates are below.

Vocalist Drew Thomson explains, “”Metropolis” was recorded just before Through A Wall at Lincoln County Social Club in Toronto, Ontario. It’s a collaboration between Peter Landi and myself. I had recently moved apartments and my old landlord had sold the building we lived in and kicked everyone out. There was a real estate boom and we were all seemingly in the middle of it. Peter came to me with the song and once we were in the studio the lyrics came right away. I was just venting. A few years before I was living in my van. Sometimes it takes all the energy you have just to keep the lights on.”

Single Mothers’ “Metropolis” hits streaming services Friday via Dine Alone
